Jute and ceramic sculpture
25.00 x 7.00 x 5.00 cm
This sculpture is based on the sorrow of losing a loved one. After I’d suddenly lost my partner, my soulmate, I found some comfort in reading Max Porter’s ‘Grief is the Thing with Feathers’, where a grieving father and his young children are nurtured by a Crow. This beautiful book and the connotations of the crow inspired me to make some sort of ‘scarecrow’: a somewhat grim-looking figure that seeks protection against both the humor and tragedy that both life and death can bring us. The jute used in this sculpture comes from a roll of jute which is used to protect fragile trees against the sun. ******** This piece will be on exhibit until June, and shall be shipped at the end of June.
